MWM Architects, Inc. is one of three architectural firms charged with the design of the 220,000 square foot Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences. Located
in Lubbock, Texas, the multi-purpose nature of the venue will allow for a wide range of activity, from opera, Broadway shows and symphonic music, to rock and country concerts, conferences and social events. Inspired by and in the spirit of Lubbock, West Texas, and the South Plains, Buddy Holly Hall will feature a 2,200-seat main theatre, an additional 425-seat theatre, and a 5,000-square-foot multi-purpose room that can be divided into two performance spaces. Ample public space in the lobby with its feature helical stair and amenities including a bistro café will make Buddy Holly Hall a community living room active throughout the day in addition to evening performances. The goal is for this venue to feel great for all types of performing and audiences - whether they are in jeans and hat or ball gowns and tuxedos.
Ballet Lubbock will make Buddy Holly Hall their home. Their 22,000 square foot Dance Center will include six dance studios split between two floors that all will have sprung floors. The largest studio has been sized to replicate the size of the main stage and will have a skyfold door that can be lowered from the 14 foot ceiling to make two smaller dance studios. The Ballet Lubbock space will also include administration offices on the first floor, storage and costume spaces in the basement, and dressing rooms on the second floor. Also located on the second floor will be a training/massage room to take care of the minor bumps, bruises, and cramps that the dancers can experience while in class or on stage.
